“I am the wisest man alive, for I know one thing, and that is that I know nothing”. Whether you're reading this because you're an amateur interested in philosophy or are studying philosophy, I can tell you one thing for sure and that is that the more you study philosophy the less you seem to know. When studying philosophy, it helps develop your ability to reason and your ability to think critically. Other areas of studying like physics, history, and many others focus more on the acquisition of knowledge. While philosophy does help us acquire knowledge it also focuses on thinking analytically and questioning everything which is a huge part of human nature. It’s a truly liberating feeling to be able to think for yourself. So often these days we’re influenced by everything whether that be media, parents' teachers etc., with the tools philosophy gives you you'll be able to challenge these views that are passed down from the media or the views passed down from your parents. This is quite significant because until you learn to challenge the ideas instilled upon you, you'll just be another follower in the world. I'm not saying that everyone has to be a leader but as a human being I believe it is our responsibility to think for ourselves and philosophy helps us do this.
